Plakias and SelliaPlakias (Greek: Πλακιάς) is a village on the south coast of the Greek island of Crete, in the Rethymno Prefecture, about 30 kilometres south of the city of Rethymno. It is part of the municipality Foinikas. It is surrounded by mountains to the north and the Libyan Sea to the south.
Rethymno (Greek Ρέθυμνο, pronounced [ˈreθimno]) is a prefecture in the island of Crete. Its capital is the city of Rethymno.
Today its main income is tourism. The countryside of the prefecture is also based economically on agriculture and herding. The village of Anogia is reported to have the highest fertility rate of the EU. Three other notable towns in the Rethymno prefecture are Plakias, Spili and Agia Galini.
